Volony House
The Art of Classical Proportion
The Vision
Located in Istanbul, this 750-square-meter home was conceived as a sanctuary for a multi-generational family. The objective was to cultivate an architectural language that honors the distinct rhythms of daily life; a space that remains generous and inviting, shaped by the habits of those who inhabit it. The design began with a commitment to creating an environment that feels structured yet welcoming, where the scale of the rooms is balanced by a quiet sense of belonging.
The Composition
The process focused on reconciling the diverse aspirations of a large family into a single, cohesive narrative. By balancing existing spatial conditions with a rigorous focus on quality, the structure was transformed into a timeless setting where every decision feels intentional. Rather than imposing a rigid aesthetic, we allowed the proportions of the house to dictate the flow, ensuring that each transition between shared areas and private retreats feels natural and resolved. The design process required balancing the varied expectations of a large family, shaping shared spaces that feel generous and cohesive while still allowing room for individual rhythms.
The Materiality
Classical motifs were reinterpreted through a lens of contemporary restraint, focusing on the integrity and tactility of every surface. We preserved maximum ceiling heights to amplify the presence of air and light, while oak flooring in a traditional herringbone pattern provides a grounded rhythm throughout the main volumes. Every element of the fixed woodwork was designed and realized within our own ateliers; from the artisanal plaster moldings to the vanity units, each piece functions as a deliberate component of a unified whole.
The Atmosphere
Volony House is more than a building; it is an experience where comfort and aesthetic clarity coexist. It remains a quiet, enduring environment that stands as a reflection of the family’s identity and our dedication to refined craftsmanship.
