Villa C1
Girls' Room
Growing in Parallel
The Vision
Villa C1 (Girls' Room) was shaped around a tender premise: two sisters, aged 10 and 6, growing up side by side in a 35-square-meter room in Çekmeköy, İstanbul. The brief asked for a space holding both children equally, nurturing their individual worlds while leaving room for togetherness.
Rather than simply furnishing a shared bedroom, the aim was to create a foundation where play, rest, and concentration each find their place, guided by care, balance, and the understanding that a children's room must grow alongside its inhabitants.
The Composition
The room was organised around three familiar rituals: sleeping, studying, and dressing. Each zone has its own rhythm, allowing both sisters to settle into their own routines without stepping on each other's. Circulation was kept generous and open. Study areas sit close enough for whispered homework help but far enough apart for undisturbed concentration. Storage was scaled to each child's reach, inviting them to take charge of their belongings. Because children rarely stay the same for long, the layout was planned with flexibility at its core.
The Materiality
The palette builds on the home's light beige tones, layered with gentle blush accents that keep the room restful without feeling muted. A panoramic wall covering depicting a soft, natural landscape lends depth and a quiet invitation to daydream, while a giraffe-shaped lamp extends the nature motif into the room, feeding a child's imagination through design rather than decoration.
Every piece of furniture was custom-produced to fit the room precisely, proportioned to suit a child's body and scale of use. Edges were rounded throughout, making safety something felt in the shape of things rather than added on top. Textiles and finishes were chosen together, creating a coherent, gentle whole.
The Atmosphere
From the first night, the room feels settled and welcoming. Soft tones and natural imagery set a restful mood, while the clarity of its layout gives each sister a place that is truly hers. A space shaped by the belief that sharing can be generous, and that thoughtful design grows up alongside the children it was made for.
